If you haven’t seen the best movie of 2018 "Crazy Rich Asians"—centering on the ostentatious and fabulously glamorous lifestyles of mega-wealthy Asian families, you need to remedy that stat!
Singapore Crazy Rich Asians - 'Monaco of the Far East'
The movie broke box office records and finally got Hollywood to sit up and take note of the kind of popularity and impact movies celebrating Asian culture can have. Audiences fell in love with the story of Nick Young and Rachel Chu, a charming young couple who encounter several comical yet profound obstacles in their path to love.
Based on the hilarious and best-selling novel by Kevin Kwan, "Crazy Rich Asians" also introduced millions to a little island country in Asia known as Singapore. The story is as funny as it is illuminating, particularly about a subset of Asians so wealthy it would make you swoon to hear of their net worth!
After reading the book and watching the movie on opening weekend, I simply knew I had to learn more about Singapore and the people who call it home. Very much like Monaco in Europe, this little island is home to more millionaires than any other city.
Little did I know this tiny, former British colony had become the 4th largest financial center in the world, famous for its amazing lush, green and beautiful cityscape, absolute cleanliness, cutting-edge technology and smart, driven workforce.
Even Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin surrendered his U.S. citizenship to live there (he also happens to now be the city-state’s richest person).
Suddenly, this little gem of a country became world-famous as "Crazy Rich Asians" shed a bright spotlight on the amazing rich lifestyles, the jaw-dropping Sands Hotel casino and rich Chinese traditions with a touch of British influence. I was in awe and full of curiosity.
Not to mention, I was intrigued by their skincare and health routines, as Singapore ladies are almost always looking remarkably thin and youthful with that kind of “glass skin” that is so coveted in Asian circles (and now pretty much the rest of the world). What’s not to covet?
The Beauty Obsession and Lifestyle Secrets of Singapore Women
Unlike the rich and famous in Monaco who are proud of their bronze skin and bodies, Singapore ladies are famous for taking care of their skin with their weekly spa visits, insane investments in skin whitening creams, and avoiding sun exposure at all costs.
They wear minimal makeup, preferring to look naturally youthful and beautiful. They’re not so different from Korean women in that respect, as Koreans also pride themselves on maintaining a powerful skincare regimen that leaves them looking radiant (without a single trace of foundation to be seen).
Incidentally, the founder of TautUSA Skincare is originally from Singapore. After watching the movie, I reached out to her to ask how Singapore ladies define beautiful skin, what they are obsessed with, and to share some of their secrets to achieving their eternally youthful looks.
Singapore's Ladies Obsession with Skin
TautUSA's founder is a firm believer in looking as natural as possible, wearing very little makeup to let her natural skin glow from within. Apparently she is not the only one. Having skin that appears naturally beautiful is prized as the ultimate sign of beauty.
Despite all their wealth (as compared to most other Asian countries), Singapore ladies prefer not to go under the knife for cosmetic procedures. Instead they will pour money and time into eating well and nourishing their skin from the outside in and inside out - in order to achieve that natural youthful look.
Nourished Glowing Skin
The founder is also adamant about nourishing skin from the inside out by eating healthily and giving skin all the necessary vitamins and nutrients that will keep it firm, pliant, tight and soft. Rosy cheeks that radiate and glow are a sign of vitality, youth and beauty.
Luminous Porcelain Skin
She also told me having a porcelain complexion free of dark spots and hyper-pigmentation that is also flawless is what these women are also obsessed about.
This probably explains why SKII and other skincare brands that emphasize whiter, luminous skin are such a big hit among Asians, since having porcelain white skin is a sign of class and wealth, and not just beauty.
"Crazy Rich Asians" Cast - Their Beauty Secrets
I was also fascinated by the fact that these beauty mantras are not so different from the ones held by the lead actresses in "Crazy Rich Asians" – Constance Wu and Gemma Chan.
Wu is not afraid to indulge in some luxury. In fact, she told The New York Times, “I use La Mer Moisturizing Soft Cream. The first time I heard about La Mer was in middle school, and I read that J.Lo used it. I didn’t always use it, but once I started making money, I was like, ‘I can actually afford to treat myself.’ To me, skin care is a pleasure.” As you can see, Constance puts great stock in proper skin care, just like many Singaporean women.
Chan, being British, relies on some UK pharmacy finds, including Boots No. 7 for their skin creams. She recently told Allure.com, “I use their Protect and Perfect Night Cream…It’s effective, super affordable. I also use the Simple Micellar Wipes. They’re great because they don’t leave an oily residue on my skin, which I can’t stand." She’s obviously a fan of the simple yet effective routine, and her flawless, blemish-free, porcelain skin just proves her method is working.
How to Achieve Naturally Youthful Flawless Skin
Avoid The Sun
Singapore women seek out an unmarred, porcelain complexion. Indeed, you won’t find them tanning very often. Singapore as a city is very green, and being almost on the equator, the sun shines hot and bright year-round. That being the case, Singapore ladies avoid the sun like you would an arch nemesis. But the truth is, there is so much wisdom in that. Frequent sun exposure accelerates skin aging, and nobody wants that. Unlike the ladies in the west, they believe prevention is the key.
Eat Some Spice!
Singaporean women adore spicy food, and as I discovered in my research, Singapore boasts some of the most delicious food in the world, as long as you don’t mind a bit of heat.
Spicy food contains antioxidants and vitamin C, both of which are great for skin. Antioxidants fight free radicals, and vitamin C helps brighten to give radiance. Moreover, sweating when eating spicy food helps with detox. Not such a glamorous notion, but hey, if it works, why knock it?
So don't be afraid to sprinkle turmeric, red chili, and ginger as often as you can into your food. A little spice will do wonders for your skin and health.
It’s All About Soup
Singapore women love soup as a food staple. Pork knuckle soup, as featured in the movie, is a popular favorite, as are outdoor eateries where you can sample the best that Singapore has to offer. Cantonese soup, filled with herbs, is another go-to. Meanwhile, bird nest soup and herb soup are also eaten for their benefits in health and beauty.
These benefits are plentiful as Singaporeans believe that drinking soup gives you all the healthy nutrients to nourish your skin and maintain a body healthy. In fact, many Asians believe eating soup regularly can keep your body strong, prevent disease and even nourish and protect your beauty.
Stay Away from Alcohol
Unlike in the west, Singapore ladies don't drink daily nor often. Having glass of wine and occasional cocktails are not part of their lifestyle. Instead you see them drinking health tonics with herbs can can help promote better health, circulation and good skin.
Don't be surprised if you don't see many ladies in Singapore consuming alcoholic drinks. Instead they are loading up on their collagen shots to boost their skin collagen and to maintain their youthful radiance naturally.
Focus on Supplements and Skin Care That Promote Porcelain Skin
As I previously mentioned, Singapore women like to have light complexions unblemished by dark spots and discoloration that can make skin look dull. Thus, skin care that promises to reduce pigmentation and promote luminous white skin is highly prized. It is widely considered a representation of wealth and youth in the city-state.
How do these ladies achieve porcelain skin?
Besides avoiding sun at all costs and applying sunscreen daily, these are some of their basic daily secrets:
1. Take supplements that help fade dark spots and promote luminous porcelain skin. Focus on ingredients proven to help lighten dark skin tone, e.g. glutathione and olive leaf extract.
2. Pearl powder - an age old tradition.
3. Use face masks and serums with ingredients that can help promote whiter skin.
Collagen Drinks, Get Your Collagen Drinks!
In the U.S., collagen drink supplements continue to grow in popularity, but in Singapore, they have been available for years and are widely accepted. Collagen drinks are sold everywhere, at the local grocery store as well as in health and nutrition stores, where all kinds of formulations with varying levels of potency can be found.
Taut Premium Collagen Replenishment Formula, now with grape seed extract, is considered to be the most luxurious, powerful and effective collagen drink in the world. Its 1.7oz glass bottle is formulated with highest grade and dose of marine collagen 13,000mg. All ingredients are backed by science to really turn back your clock and give you amazing beautiful youthful skin.
With its Singaporean origins, it’s no wonder Taut has always been so focused on the importance of collagen supplements and the need for premium quality. Singapore ladies demand the best!
Collagen is a protein that keeps skin firm and prevents the formation of wrinkles and sagging. But, inevitably, it decreases in our bodies with age. Taut’s collagen replenishment formula can help restore this crucial lost protein to keep skin looking bright, radiant and youthful.

Here are what customers have to say:
My Taut Premium Collagen Experience
Began taking Taut drinks daily for the first month. Now taking it three to four times per week, for the past six months. Now happier with overall smoother & firmer appearance of face — less bags under eyes. Taut drink has a strong orange fruity flavor. Took a week or so to get used to the taste.. Otherwise— I am happy with the results. Will continue using it and recommend it to anyone wishing to clear up blemishes and filling out facial wrinkles giving a more youthful look
I am man on my late 40 and I was looking for side effect of Andropause. I end up discovering collagen as a big lost in our body that cause loose firmness.. prior this for my face care I been doing Forma laser combo for face wrinkles and eye bags spending a lot of money. Is super easy to take, taste good and I think I won’t need any laser treatment.
